The Stroke Research Network consists of a managed set of research networks and a Co-ordinating Centre. Research networks are regionally based, collaborative groups of clinical and professional staff working in stroke services, researchers in stroke, and people who have had a stroke and their carers. The networks are virtual organisations, funded by the health departments in the UK countries and supported by a host organisation, usually an NHS Trust.

The role of networks is to increase participation in research studies of people who have had a stroke or are at risk of a stroke, as well as involving them and their carers in network activities. They also support the set-up and running of research studies within the SRN portfolio in sites in their network and development of their local research workforce.

There are eight research networks in England:  View a map of the network locations.

In Scotland, stroke has been identified as one of three priority areas for research and the Scottish Stroke Network has been established to support this work.

In Northern Ireland, stroke research will be supported as part of the Northern Ireland Clinical Research Network.

In Wales, stroke is one of the priority areas within the Older People and Aging Research Network, one of the networks which are part of the Clinical Research Collaboration Cymru (CRC Cymru).
